Knowing your children

There is power in your smile.
Do you know that even though it lasts for just a few seconds, the memory of a smile could stay with you for the rest of your life? There is power in your smile, its value is immeasurable, it is immense because when a smile is directed at you, it makes you feel warm all over, you feel more relaxed and you feel you could handle any situation that arises. I remember the lyrics of a nursery song my son used to sing, it goes likeSo let the sun shine in,Smilers never lose
And Frowners never win…etc. (hope I got that right?)

Did you say Mumps?
I woke up Tuesday morning to notice a swelling on my son’s face. My first thought was that he had hit his face against a wall in the night or had a fight at school and someone hit him in the process. All the same my first reaction was to take him to the hospital because I will not know how serious it is until I get him to the hospital. The doctor said Mumps is a viral infection spread by airborne droplets from the nose or throat, that the disease is most common in children after the age of two. He said it is good that I brought him as soon as I noticed it, that if not quickly attended to, it could cause the child severe pain, increase body temperature, cause fever, make him unable to eat or chew anything and if not properly treated can affect the scrotum.26 November 2008

How well do you know your children!
Our children are our best assets, but when they are unknowingly neglected on the premise of work or trying to provide for the family by either the father or mother and in some cases by both parent, the children tend to fend for themselves and along the way, develop all sorts of character and vices that the parents are not aware of. They mixed with friends that the parents may not approve of because there is no supervision from their parent and even when the parent’s are at home they show little concern for the friends their children make, the magazines they read, or the TV programs they watch. Some of these children lose their innocence without the parent’s knowledge; they matured quickly into adulthood as a result of keeper’s bad influence, peer pressure and unhealthy exposure to TV and Internet because the parent did not exercise either a positive or negative control over their usage. Because they are also made to fend for themselves for such a long time while the parents are busy making money, they are forced to take critical decisions on their own. Some of those children exposed to child abuse are those left in the care of others by their parents, they grow up being rebellious, degenerates, child abusers, perverts, and renown sex offenders.
Parents must take care, it is good to work and make money for your family but not at the expense of the child, a parent’s responsibility is not to his child’s happiness; but to his character.
Parents should not allow their own interests to keep them from taking the time to talk, listen, admonish and instruct their children on what they should know, if they do, they will seek answers from others outside and they may not always get the right answers.
Parents should also know that, if their children were constantly left in the care of others, the children would start to avoid them and they may eventually have problems getting attached to their parents.
Lastly, parents should learn to balance time at work with time spent with their children.
Peace!

Homosexuality and Gay marriages.
The word gay from oxford dictionary means first, of homosexuals or for homosexuals, second: careless, without worries and third: happy and full of life. While homosexuality is sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one's own sex.Now talking about marriage, the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. and by its nature, it is ordered towards the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of the offspring. Hence man and woman was ordained to live in love and share love with each other, it is divine and not man-made.
From the aforementioned, it is crystal clear that the coinage of the words GAY and MARRIAGE is contradictory and in fact outside the normal. This implies that both words are irreconcilable because gayism is homogenous – between those of opposite sex; but the sense of marriage is outside the context of homosexuality because there is no point of agreement as they have different aims and in the same vein different means and end.
Gen 1:27-28, so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: if God had intended the so called same sex marriage, he would have as well leave man lonely without creating a woman and device his own supernatural way of multiplying the earth. Remember, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was because of the sin of homosexuality, Leviticus 18:22, Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination and Lev 20:13, If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Conclusively, the battle against this disease, (because I see it as a disease) involves every right thinking individual who still have some moral preservation. It is our duties to educate and counsel those who seem to be disposed towards this ugly and awkward act. Rather than allowing them to influence us, let us work together to influence the perverted ones among us.
Good must be done and evil must be totally avoided.
Shalom!

Mothers Rule The World.
This is so true and I honestly tell you that most mothers don’t know they rule the world and even own it. Presidents have mothers, kings have mothers, rich men and women have mothers, and their mothers rule the world through them. Since we rule the world, we should be careful with the things we impact on our children because they spend more time with us than with their fathers, it is therefore our duty to see that our children are properly trained and raised to be God fearing and responsible individuals. The success of a mother is proved only in the discharge of her duties as a mother. If she fails in this, then she has failed in everything else. Even though she is successful in her chosen career and has a long list of accomplishments that is second to none once she fails as a mother she will no longer be of consequence in the eyes of God and even in the society.
Mothers should learn to be docile towards their duties so as not to endanger the future of their children and the society because the destinies of the children, that of the whole family, the church of God and the society is in the hands of the mothers more than anyone else.
I am making a sincere call on all mothers to be active in combating the morals antics of their children. Mothers should be challenged by the moral decadence such as pornography, prostitution, delinquency and the likes in our society and redouble their efforts to make better the lives of their children.
A Godly Mother should:
- Not take her children for granted, don’t think they don’t know anything when they are already exposed to a lot through the mass media and their peers.
- Be the meanest mother to ever exist by ensuring your children do all the right and proper things at the right time regardless of the inconveniences to you or them. It will make them God-fearing, educated and honest adults.
Shalom!

A Dysfunctional child.
In every home there are needs that are very essential to the daily existence of our children. If some of these needs are not met as at when required then a lot of things could go wrong. There is always the physical, emotional and the spiritual need and when any of these is lacking there tends to be Loss of trust in the parents, bridge in communication and listening, loss of respect for parents, lots of skeletons in the cupboard (keeping of secrets), tendency to ignore inappropriate behaviour, loss of feelings etc.In a family, where the physical needs of the children like food, clothing, shelter etc are not met either as a result of the parents inability to provide because of unemployment, sickness or because either of the parent has the sole responsibility of raising the children alone (single parenthood), the children suffer unduly and has to look for a means to an end all by themselves. Such children are often seen on the streets begging for alms, involved in underage prostitution, picking pockets, snatching of handbags etc.
Emotional need is much more complex and usually very difficult and more subtle to detect. It is the need for acceptance, affirmation and love from parents or guardian. Most children who feel they do not have the love of their parents, grow up to unstable, unloving, they lack emotions, self esteem, confidence and they tend to be impaired/dysfunctional persons when the grow up. The results of this; the children often have behaviour disorders, they are poor in their academics, they don’t mix or make friends easily, they fight at every given opportunity, and they tend to be loners.
Finally the spiritual need, as earlier discussed in a previous post, the often missing dimension in marriage, so also it is with our children. They must be given the opportunity to know God and serve him, if you are godly, then teach your children to also obey (Eph. 6:1; 1 Tim. 3:4), give them the necessary guidance and direction on how to know God and be disciplined into a mature relationship with him. Remember that parents must teach God’s truth at all times Deut. 4:9; 32:46). Failure to do this can result in untold hardship as a result of loses of direction and focus.
Our children are our greatest assets, our most valuable investments and also the most valuable fruit of the kingdom of God; let us therefore faithfully bring them up so that we can be confident that our efforts from age 0-9months and beyond will not be in vain (Prov. 22:6).

Children’s Lack of Discipline.
Lack of control or restrain is so common in our society today and I really don’t know whom to hold responsible for this. Is it the mother’s fault? Or is the father lacking in his responsibility to the child? Could it be the child refused to listen to reason? Where did the problem originate? This is one seemingly intractable problem in most families today.
Indiscipline manifests in such areas as examination malpractices, secret cult menace, unprotected sex, unwanted pregnancies, bribery and corruption, prostitution (both male and female now). There are crisis everywhere you turn in the society as a result of undisciplined youths, most parents neglect the care of their children in search of greener pastures or better prospects and by the time they get their breakthrough, they are total strangers to their children who have become uncontrollable and distant.
Most parents today leave their children in the care of maids and child sitters or sometimes to their own devices thinking they are old enough to take care of themselves, they come in from their place of work only to rush out to meet with their charity group, their club friends, attend dinner at friends house and so on thinking all is well until something otherwise happen.
Parents should take up the challenge of raising God fearing, obedient and disciplined children, this will better our own lives, give us peace in our old age and make the world a better place for everyone to live in. Think of it, there will be little or no perversion, rape, kidnapping for whatever purpose, robbery, smuggling, corruption, drugs etc. In other to achieve this, you can;
- Teach him to pray as soon as he/she can speak or old enough to understand what prayer means.
- Correct cruelty to others either human or animal,
- Tell the child not to lie or correct a lie whenever it is uttered, do not punish a fault that is freely confessed, but never allow a disobedient act to go unpunished.
- Teach them to love others always as themselves,
- Don’t give them room to satisfy their own desires or adhere to their own opinions, it could lead to selfishness or destructive habit when denied,
- Give him whatever he politely asks for, if it’s good for him but deny him whatever he cries for whether it is good for him or not.
- Don’t make empty promises or promises you know you cannot fulfill, honor every promise you make to them.
- Commend them when well behaved and reward when necessary.
Remember Prov 22:6, train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old, he will not turn from it.
Be blessed.

What a sad world!
My questions are;
Are such persons human?
What goes through their mind when perpetrating such evil?
Were such people born with paedophilic tendencies or was it developed over the years?
What make some people so cruel, wicked and unfeeling that even the cries that emanate from their victims is not enough to deter them from committing the evil act?
Friends, after reading this story from NAFASG, I could not stop crying at the inhumanity of some people. It could have been any other child from any part of the world, they are everywhere, please lets be very careful with our young ones.
May God protect us all.

Success
I have read somewhere that when we were coming to life; every one of us was entrusted with a cargo, our cargo includes children, spouses and friends. And for our journey to be successful, we have to deliver our cargo to their destination. The most important of our cargo is our children; they are to be delivered without spot or blemish, teach them the way of the Lord. Never make them promises you cannot fulfil, don’t be a do I say kind of parent, but do as I do. Admit mistakes when you make them and don’t punish them unfairly; give them audience at all times.
A writer once wrote that he knew of a number of wealthy men who were not successes as fathers. They made money rapidly; their factories were marvels of organization; their money investments were sound and made with excellent judgment, and their contributions to public service were useful and all willingly made. At the end they have their fortune on one hand, and worthless and dissolute children on the other.
WHY WAS THAT?
They spend too much time making money and too little time was spent with their children.
What does success means to you?

Funny interlude
Ladi: A
Me: B
Ladi: Shhh (meaning C)
I got fed up and concluded that he does not like the letter B. And thinking he might find the animals more fun, I moved to the animal characters, and I said, say monkey, pointing at the monkey

Ladi: "Ahhh bitttti"And he walked away to find a new interest. I can't help wondering if he's too young and I'm being in a hurry or if that attitude is just typical of two year olds. Being a first time mum,I just hope and pray that I'm getting it all right.

Abuse
What brought the issue of abuse to mind was a post I read over at Refinedone. I could not imagine such cruelty been meted out to children that have seen so much misery in their life, and who deserve nothing else but lots of love and care.
Child Abuse; this is simply defined as child maltreatment, either physical or emotional. Mostly by a person well known to the child, custodian, which could be the parent, guardian, child minder, babysitter, adopted parents, relatives etc. Children could be subjected to different abuse one of which is;
Sexual abuse – of children is common these days, and from articles read on the subject, abusers are predominantly male. Different terms are used to describe these conditions like paedophile and the likes. Most parents leave their children in the care of trusted relations or friends who violates these trusts by sexually abusing the children left in their care. In most cases, such children don’t want to talk or report the incident to their parents for fear of being punished. It is the parent’s duty to subject their children to some questioning if you suspect that a form of abuse could have taken place in your absence and very gently encourage the child to tell you what transpired between he/she and the abuser and instantly take steps to prevent re-occurrence, in most cases, reporting to the authorities in charge of such situation. (That is if you’re not the abuser.)
Physical violence on children – like the type Refinedone mentioned in her post. Hitting children is a form of abuse, for those who have been claiming ignorance; it is also a punishable offence under law regardless of wherever you live. We are expected to train and discipline our children, a little spanking once in a while or verbal correction is ok. But when a child has serious injuries, as a result of punishment mete out by the parents or other persons, that is no longer discipline but abuse. And if you notice burn marks, bruises, or injuries in the shape of welts, cords or belt on your child, please, question the child as to the origin of such injuries and immediately seek ways to stop whoever is responsible.
It is important to note that some children do abuse other children also, maybe when at school, playground, at the park or when visit is paid to friends who has kids that are older than your own. The important thing is early detection of the abuse before it’s repeatedly carried out and caused the child physical, psychological and emotional problems.
